Though we don't profile our players, BOFC players' occupations range
from non-movie related jobs, to industry positions, to students in school to just plain
box office fans.
How Do You Go About Calculating Who the
Winner Is?
Let's say you predicted $8.0 million and the movie grosses $10.0 million on
Friday. The procedure goes as follows: the absolute value of
Friday's gross minus the actual divided by the actual {ABS. $8.0
- 10.0. / 10 x 100) = 20% off} That calculates the
percentage off for Friday and the same procedure is done for
Saturday and Sunday and all three %'s are added up. Your
percentage off represents for all three days combined.

week's game opens on Saturday morning and halts at 11:00 pm PST (2:00 am EST) Friday nights. |
Public Viewing of Results.
In each contest you have the option of having your predictions
posted online. This gives participants a feel for what other
players are thinking for the
weekend and also a chance to look back at what you predicted for a daily gross versus what
the actual figure might have been. The chart is posted AFTER the challenge is
closed. Please note that this feature is optional - you don't have to display your
predictions. |

What Are The Odds Of
Winning? If everyone had an equal shot of winning, your chances are around 1:130
although experience and knowledge will vastly increase those odds.
However, with every player earning BOFC points from each game,
each point counts toward the big finale prize at the end of the
season (among any other prizes we offer). So even if you don't
win the game you're points are still adding up.
What's With This Bulls-Eye Deal?
The bulls-eye award is a new feature to BOFC. It's easy to
comprehend but quite complicated to achieve. If you perfectly
predict your Friday - Sunday individual daily box office grosses
(0% off in total) you will win a jackpot of 12 points (instead
of 10) plus an addition 2 points every week there is no winner.
This means that if the jackpot is up to 22 points and you
perfectly predict your daily grosses for a weekend, you will
earn 22 points for that challenge instead of just the regular
10. |
How Many People
Play? BOFC averages
between 110 - 140 players per-week. The biggest player turnout was for
Harry Potter (255
players), followed by Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back with 215 players. We hope to expand our player status
and attract new and intense box office observers into the game. If you'd like stronger
competition in a situation where it could make the game more interesting and competitive,
spread the word to your friends. |
