Lee's Movie Info - Visitor Ratings For Freddy vs Jason

Freddy vs. Jason is a worthwhile film. The obvious intention of this movie was to go over the top, and to introduce the most popular killers of all time to a new generation. The previous movies in each franchise had deteriorated to the point where true fans quit watching. Friday the 13th part 8 was terrible, and Jason goes to Hell was even worse. Those two films made Jason X, regardless of the stupid concept of jason in space, a worthwile entry in a tired series. Friday the 13th movies haven't been scary since part 4...so there was no point in making FvJ scary. Jason is an American icon, and if one thinks about it...his face, although masked, is as big screen friendly as Brad Pitts'. And for me personaly, I would much rather see jason than brad on that sceen.

Now on to Freddy. The Nightmare on Elmstreet series always allowed for more creativity than the F13ths because of the dream world Freddy exists in. But sadly like jason, freddy lost ability to scare us years ago. Freddy became a cartoon character. Rather than scare a movie goer, freddy would wise crack his way through movies. Between the one-liners he killed teens in a way consistent with their stereotypical behavior...for example, a drug user would get injected with drugs from syringes which replaced the knives on freddy's hand. Nightmare on Elm Steet became a running joke.

I got exactly what i wanted from FvJ. The two villians became interesting again. Jason is brutal throughout the movie, and Freddy became slightly less of a smart-ass. Freddy had to really physically fight in this movie. I thought his fight scenes added a bit of toughness that was sorely needed in his character (afterall freddy has been defeated by many teenage girls throughout the years).

I also enjoyed the gore in FvJ. It was so over the top...blood gushes out in streams :)
