No Power Problems For Freddy or Jason Despite the notoriously frontloaded nature of horror movies, Freddy vs. Jason looks like it will easily cross the $30 million mark this weekend. Using a 2.5 Friday-weekend multiplier (both Jason X and Halloween: Resurrection followed this pattern), Freddy Vs. Jason looks like it is headed for a $34-35 million weekend take. However, given the nature wide spread power problems going into this weekend, it is hard to say for sure.
Thursday box office was down significantly (down 39% weekly and 20% year to year) most likely because of the power outages. Friday's numbers have quickly rebounded from Thursday's debacle inching past last week's top 10 by 1% and blowing by last year's Friday that was lead by xXx, Signs and Blue Crush.
Open Range and Uptown Girl opened with respectable numbers. Open Range has the early lead and the best chance of having a stronger Saturday and Sunday because of its older target audience and positive reviews. This is a lot more than Grind can say. It's hard to imagine anyone had high expectations for this movie. It looks like it will follow the same fate as Out Cold and Extreme Ops.
