- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2012Living in a country that is currently as divided politically as voters were during the American Civil War, it's great to be able to laugh so hard about it. Yet, in true Chris Rock style, there's always a very practical and poignant message beneath the laughter. So, in the tradition of Norman Lear with All in the Family, my hat's off to Mr. Rock. Okay, here goes my personal side of politics (in a country that professes freedom of speech yet silences those who disagree): The movie story line draws a lot of its inspiration from the G.W. Bush Administration. But, for me, the "prophetic" part of this movie is what appears to be the scenario playing out during the 2012 election. In the case of the protagonist in Head of State, the president elect is being put in his position only to fail so that he can be blamed for the mess he inherited. So, "the plan", on the part of the opposing party, always was to regain the White House by providing a formidable situation for whom would become the incumbent. (Remember: This movie was made in 2004!) Sometimes I wonder whom the laugh is on as I'm roaring out loud while watching Head of State. At any rate, and in my humble opinion, this movie is off the hizzle fa shizzle and very well worth the time spent watching and laughing. Head of State (Full Screen Edition)
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2013Like with Eddie Murphy's comic satire, "The Distinguished Gentleman," I laughed all the way through "Head of State." What a brash and insightful comedy! Chris Rock stars as Mays Gilliam, a young D.C. alderman who captivates his audiences once he decides to earnestly contend for the presidency. Made in 2003, when President Obama was still an Illinois state senator, "Head of State" not only foreshadows Obama, but also such issues and social ills as video game violence, school shootings, and the call for increased gun control. Alongside the humor, there is a serious tone about America's problems and her ineffective political solutions. The hilarity escalates when Bernie Mac, of happy memory, enters in as Mays' jive-talking brother Mitch, recruited as his running-mate when no one else accepts. Together they blitz the opposition, which consists of a bigoted, two-term vice president and his abused lackeys. The campaign peaks on the eve of election day with the one and only debate. I won't spoil it for those who have not yet seen this movie, but Mays turns his opponent's campaign slogan on its head by saying what I have quoted above as the title for my review. Fr. Dennis
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2004At the outset, let me say what I am: I am white, 61 years old, a physician, and I live in a gated community. It would be easy for people like me to dismiss "Head of State" as just another crass commercial rip-off by Hollywood. It's not that at all.
The premise underlying "Head of State" is that Americans are currently represented by a government totally out of touch with the lives of ordinary citizens. That's why this film can be so hilarious, why it strikes such a responsive chord.
"Head of State" is more than just another comedy, more than just a parody of our political process. It is brilliant political satire, studded with remarkable insights into the political process. Yes, I laughed all the way through the film. But if Mays Gilliam ever comes to real life in America, I won't be laughing at him. I'll be voting for him. And so will the country.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2018Funny Funny Funny and some candidates really do become self absorb within themselves just to win election I mean look at our real president whom I didn't vote into office he's making a mess of things and putting blame elsewhere So it real for me to know that even though it's acting that Chris Tucker was for the people and cities Good Example

- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2014This is one of those movies that brings me back to childhood memories. I was a lot younger when I first saw this movie and just couldn't stop laughing. While there is plenty of comedy to laugh at...it does have a powerful message as well...never give up and always do the right thing.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2013Its amazing how this funny fictional comedy actually became a reality when President Obama was elected. Wishful thinking can sometimes come true and this is why I watch this DVD to reminisce on that historical moment.

2.0 out of 5 stars 2 stars, and i am feeling generous!
i am a huge fan of chris rock and Down to Earth is one of my favourate movies of all time but his one was rubbish there are one or two funny moments but apart from that there is nothing not even a cheap laugh to keep you going. A massive problem is his female co-star who is supposed to be the love of his life but he only meets her twice and the lack of chemistry between the two of them and her uninspiring performance makes you want to cry! Chris rock is far better in down to Earth, buy that instead.
