Movie Review
Rusti Goins
The movie the Gospel of John starts out with John in the river Baptising people. And it says that John was sharing with the people the word of God.Then John sees Jesus and he tells two other disciples “that is Jesus”. So they go over and follow him. Jesus then goes to a temple in Jerusalem and sees that people are selling goods and animals in the temple which makes him mad. So he knocks over all the tables with the goods and scatters the coins and his reason for doing this is because the temple is his father house and it should not be disrespected like that. Jesus goes on throughout the movie and performs many miracles the first miracle he performed is when he tells his disciples to go draw water from the buckets. So they do and when they pour the water out from the pitcher it has been turn it to wonderful wine. The next miracle he performs is when an Official from Galilee rides on horseback to see Jesus and asks Jesus to heal his son who is ill and might die of a fever. Jesus then tell the offical your son is healed and when the official returns home in two days his son is healed. The third miracle Jesus performs is when Jesus heals a blind man who had been this way since birth for 38 years. The next miracle Jesus performs is when a crowd of 5,000 gathered on a hill to listen to him speak Gods word. He wants to feed the crowd but is only given 2 fish and 5 pieces of bread by a little boy, which he then turns into enough to feed the whole crowd. It even stated the whole crowd had all they could ever want. He goes on to perform many more miracles that lead up to Mary washing Jesus’ feet and then finding out Judas will betray him. Next to Palm Sunday where he rides on a donkey through Jerusalem, to the Last Supper,to him being captured by the romans to Jesus being crucified and after three days he rises again. This movie relates to world religions because it tells the story of Jesus which is whom the Christian believe is the Son of God that was sent down to live on this earth and to die for our sins. Which is a very important part of the Christian belief. The last supper is also where Christians get the practice of Communion from and still practice today. The Story of John is very consistent with other teachings of the new testament as it stated at the end of the movie, that John had the most vivid and accurate descriptions of Jesus life while he was on earth. The movie accurately tells of all the miracles Jesus performed, how some people did and did not believe in him and how he was crucified and then rose again in three days.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2019Too many movies about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ have been dull and/or stuffy, but this one is not either. The narration, by Christopher Plummer, was very well done and followed an English translation of the Gospel of John word for word. There will be people that pick this apart because they have a problem with this translation. While I do not think this is the best translation available, it is (for this movie) quite adequate to tell the story in a way that will keep most fans of Jesus engaged and entertained. Purely, as a movie, this was really well done. The acting was very good. The characters were believable, and the pace of the story did not drag on, nor did it move so fast that the audience was not able to keep pace. I was surprised at how long I watched this film before I even looked at the clock and realized how much time had gone by. It kept my attention throughout the film. The sets were beautiful, the lighting and cinematography were also well done and not distracting like many of the more contemporary movies made today. The story line is a very old and familiar one, so I have nothing to add about the story that most people do not already know. I very seldom write reviews of movies and books, but I wanted to write this review because I actually liked this movie more than many I have seen in recent history. As I have noted, the story itself is very familiar to most people, but I liked the way this one was told, in that the storyline itself needed no creative embellishment from the studios that brought us this production. If you like the story of the Gospel of John, I am sure you will like this movie. If you do not like the story, or you are just opposed to the message (like so many are, it seems, today), it will probably not matter to you how well this was done: You probably already have made your mind up about it. If you have no prior knowledge of this story, then I encourage you to watch this and be entertained by it. So many people these days find most biblical stories dull, or hard to understand. Don't go into it thinking that it is a Christian recruiting film, just enjoy the story. There are many unremarkable movies that have been made that deal with this subject matter, and I think it is a shame because because the story itself is a powerful one. This story has touched so many people, that it changed the world. I find that fascinating, in and of itself; but one need not be a believer to enjoy this story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch it again and again
Very well done and sympathetically personified by Henry Ian Cusick as Jesus.
The people who received their miracles were well portrayed:
the man at the pool,
the Samaritan woman at the well
and my favourite, the blind man from birth.
I found it funny to watch him looking around all over up and around at the impressive Temple while being escorted by the Temple Guards to his own Inquisition and his replies to his Inquisitors/Pharisees really funny. He probably would have actually done that being blind from birth and now seeing.
Watching it surprised me because it put the Humanity and emotions behind the words spoken and reminded me that they did not speak in a monotone nor with a stiff upper lip British(emotion-less) accent. I kept listening again and again and thought Wow! It felt like that?!?! And, the real Jesus joins in with extra commentary which makes it even more fun and at times, involves lots of wailing.
Now, I've mentioned this to some English friends but they didn't want to watch/hear a Jesus which was emotional. Made me wonder what's going on.
Bought this to give to a Spanish friend who is wants to practice his English with a proper British accent. Hope he will be able to tell me whereabouts in Andalusia it was filmed in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un excellent film
