Super Amazing Awesome Steelbook

Super Amazing Awesome Steelbook
I don't need to say much about Cloverfield that hasn't already been said. This is a review for the super amazing awesome Steelbook. If 'Cloverfield' the movie was an actual assembled U.S. Government film reel we saw in theaters, then this Steelbook would be the container that houses that film reel. It looks like a metal military container that has been damaged because of the attack on New York. There are faux scratches and bends, with the embossing helping to sell the damage. This is probably one of the few Steelbooks where the more damage there is to it, the more realistic it looks. Please note, this is a DVD-sized case, so it's slightly taller than the blue Blu-ray cases. It has the same thickness as other Steelbooks. This is a beautiful Steelbook for collectors and an authentic artifact that could've come straight out of the Cloverfield. Recommended.

'Cloverfield' makes one love special effects and the productions associated with their enhancement tricks. 'Cloverfield' is a movie where the characters peremptory needs are captured at vital moments by a found footage camera. Tumults of indiscretionary chatter and improvisatory sensations become the story of collected bits of film shot randomly. A focal point of tragedy relays a singular drama of apathy, and violence causes, for the viewer, his or her scrutiny to be amplified. Just when you eek out tensely the sensory story of 'Cloverfield' an image chaotically collected in the turning picture frame is everything your imagination could want to comprehend.
From a hand held camera the reception of Rob Hawkins(Michael Stahl-David) at his going away party in downtown New York City is recorded. The desperate efforts to extract anything noteworthy from the guests is seen. The gathering in this ornamented studio apartment is a carefree, upscale, twenty-something fraternity. Lilly Ford(Jessica Lucas) is intemperate. She is trying to relay a serious good-bye message for the video camera in honor of Rob's departure to Japan for a new job.
Hud(T.J. Miller) who is holding the camera, keeps moving the viewer off to focus on Marlene Diamond(Lizzy Caplan). Hud's voice, as he himself is behind the lens of the camera, is an instrumental presence. Under Hud's direction impromptu gossip is related to various guests in front of his viewfinder and under the microphone. Hud's disconsolate screaming will sire montages of macro-tense discombobulations of serenity. He responds in requisite vibes to earth rending jolts.
Here, in 'Cloverfield', the camera becomes the main character as the themes it observes and imparts are physically and pungently connected, more visceral as its human counterparts are timid. The guests of Bob's farewell party rush, with the rest of New York City, to the streets which are sub-situated to larger than life building towers which are profiled against the oceanic night sky in the gloam of foreboding mists in formless weird articulations.
The main street in the city is overwhelmed by falling rubble. The thunder and implosive pressures saturate the air and the camera turns or falls in suspended slackness. No modeled set could replicate in prepared detonations the frenetic bombardment of radial light bursts and framework dismemberments that transpire in attack confirming introductions. The terrific plush reality of these sights are achieved by the graphic CGI creations and placements. These were done by Double Negative and Tippett studios. Intimate actions of destruction are imposing and pour over blandlessly without restraining taboos in unchecked durations of time.
The drama unfolds, as the handheld camera records the continual screams of anarchy, or the condolences of welcomed emptiness. Suddenly, Rob's love interest, Beth McIntyre(Odelle Yustman), needs to be saved. The prospective rescuee makes her way into a bustling sequence of pictures. Likewise, the misguided run-ins with danger are comic hellos and good-byes.
'Cloverfield' is a 2008 found footage film directed by Matt Reeves and written by Drew Goddard. The poster reads: "Some Thing Has Found Us".

Ah, comrades, gather around as I share with you the spine-chilling tale of "Cloverfield," a movie that will make you clutch your bottle of vodka tighter than ever before. In Russia, we know a thing or two about fear, and let me tell you, this movie delivers it in spades:

Heart-Pounding Terror, Like a Siberian Blizzard!

From the moment "Cloverfield" starts, you'll feel the fear creeping into your bones like a Siberian blizzard. The suspense builds faster than a Russian speed skater on ice, and before you know it, you'll be on the edge of your seat, screaming louder than a babushka in a banya. It's terrifying, my friends, absolutely terrifying.

Now, let's talk about the shaky cam. Some may say it's distracting, disorienting, like trying to dance the kalinka after one too many shots of vodka. But in Russia, we embrace the chaos. The shaky cam adds to the intensity, making you feel like you're right there in the middle of the action, dodging debris and running for your life. It's exhilarating, comrades, absolutely exhilarating.

And what about the monster, you ask? Oh, my friends, it's a sight to behold. Big, terrifying, like something out of a Soviet ghost story. It stomps through New York City like a drunken bear on a rampage, leaving destruction in its wake. The CGI is... passable, I suppose. But in Russia, we prefer our monsters to be played by real politicians.

Ah, the ending. I won't spoil it for you, but let's just say it's like a cold blast of Siberian air. Some may find it unsatisfying, leaving more questions than answers. But in Russia, we appreciate a good mystery. It's like trying to solve the riddle of the Matryoshka doll – complex, enigmatic, and ultimately, deeply satisfying.

In conclusion, "Cloverfield" is a movie that will leave you trembling like a leaf in a Russian winter. It's scary, intense, and guaranteed to haunt your dreams for weeks to come. So if you're looking for a movie that will make you scream louder than a Russian opera singer, "Cloverfield" is the one for you.

My two cents. I feel quite protective of this movie. Rant alert!

There are a lot of people who didn't like this film because they got sick from the handicam work. I can understand this - I'd be a bit cross if I paid for my ticket and then watched a jerky movie that made me feel sick. Fair enough. I was lucky, I didn't feel sick.

However, there are also a lot of people who are rubbishing this film for a lack of character development or plot subtlety. I find this baffling. Er... guess what? This isn't a Merchant Ivory film. It's a monster movie. The poster with the decapitated Statue of Liberty covered in claw marks was a bit of a clue. I don't recall any criticism of "Four Weddings and a Funeral" based on its lack of rampaging monsters, now why was that? Ah yes, it was because "Four Weddings" was a romcom, not a visceral monster movie. There aren't any finely detailed and lovingly developed character relationships in Cloverfield because about 50% of the screentime the characters are screaming, or running, and the other 50% they are screaming AND running. I also object to the people saying "they're just whiney New Yorkers, I wanted to see them die". What??? What a lovely perspective! They're not that "whiney" - in fact they're pretty damn brave (I think I'd probably have a bit of a moan if a monster was inconsiderate enought to destroy London when I was in the middle of it and kill all my friends) and I loved the conceit of the cutting between the live "Cloverfield" footage and the historical footage on the camera of the couple on their one perfect day out together - it certainly tugged at my heartstrings, and offered a great contrast with the carnage in the present.

Then there are people who are just saying that this film is "bad". That makes me a bit cross. There are plenty of "bad" movies - try "Norbert" for example. That is a "bad" movie - cynical, poorly written, racist, poorly performed by has-been "stars" turning up for the paycheck, a McMovie aimed at the thickest, easiest-pleased lowest common denominator. "Cloverfield" is about as far from that sort of filmmaking as it is possible to get. For a mainstream movie, this is experimental film making - it's brave, it's unusual, it was launched at an unusual time for movies, it was marketed unusually and intelligently, it's an extremely carefully-constructed movie, a real labour of love (look out for the falling satellite in the very final shot!). It's short - really bucking the trend. It's obviously a much more important film than the inevitable indistinguishable three hour oh-so-worthy Oscar nomination vehicles with the same old stars going through the same old motions.

I'm happy to pin my colours to the mast: I'd rate Cloverfield as borderline genius and an important piece of filmmaking in that it pushes (arguably creating, certainly extending) a novel kind of genre. A zeitgeisty, "reality through the moviecam/mobile phone camera" style that captures the kind of images that really make the news nowadays. There will be many more movies like this, and so there should be.

I and my wife came out of this movie shaking. She - a lover of all things romcom and girly trash movies - announced after a minute or so of stunned silence that it was the best film she'd ever seen.

I don't know about that. But I can say this: Cloverfield is the second-best EXPERIENCE that I've ever had at the movies. And the best was Star Wars, when I was five. So my standards were a little simpler then.

Until we have virtuality, smellyvision and all the other interactive stuff that the future no doubt holds, this is the nearest we'll get to being right in the middle of a good old "monster crushes city" experience. It's exactly like being caught with a crowd of random strangers who are trapped and stunned right in the eye of the storm. Who cares if they're idiots? Who cares if they are in shock and do irrational things? It's totally irrelevant. What's relevant is that there's a gigantic monster somewhere out of camera shot that could come into camera shot at any second, and it wants to kill you.

The little creatures are straight rip-offs of the Starship Troopers bugs. This doesn't matter, because they're still really bloody scarey. The "result of the bite" sequence is unexpected, sudden, brutal and shocking. Wonderful, as punchy as the Godfather of such moments, the John Hurt Alien chestbursting moment. The Cloverfield monster itself is absolutely the best Godzilla style megamonster I've ever seen in a movie. Really, really, really grotesque and frightening.

It's a movie about a 500 foot high indestructible monster rampaging through Manhattan. It's clearly silly. But it achieves movie nirvana - it totally suspends disbelief. It feels real. It's traumatic. It's horrifying.

Absolutely freaking fantastic film and anyone who rubbishes it otherwise than because of subjective problems with motion sickness has a very strange notion of what is, or isn't, good cinema. That or they went in hoping for Hugh Grant to pop up and give someone a nice romantic kiss in the rain.

Loved this movie, a found-footage shaky-cam movie that works. The suspense is built as the Cloverfield monster is hidden from view until later in the film, sort of like Jaws. But when it emerges, hold on to your seats.
