Alan Silvestri has an extreme talent for writing a knockout theme and is one of the best action music composers in film music, next to Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner. Most of the music contains driving chase music complete with booming brass and percussion, especially marching snare drums. The first track is the actual main title music that Silvestri wrote for the film, but it ended up being replaced. Don't be upset if you don't start immediately hearing a knockout theme that you would expect to hear. That comes later. The cues that really standout are "Cabin Raid", "Kruger Escapes", "Dock Fight", and the best of them all, "The Eraser". The rest of the music is mostly suspense music with some action music slipping in here and there. Electric guitars, which I have not heard Silvestri use before are present in some cues. I guess he decided to use them considering the fact that he was in a rock band. "Cabin Raid" is a thrill ride of an action cue, along with "Kruger Escapes". Pulse pounding brass and driving snare drums keep the music driving to the end. Fans of Silvestri will absolutely enjoy every single minute of this. "Dock Fight" is another thrill ride action cue with the main theme exploding its way in taking the center stage. The best track of them all is the last one, "The Eraser". It starts out with an electric guitar riff and then explodes into the best version of the main theme on the entire soundtrack which is an absolute knock out. I would have given this 5 stars if the awesome theme was used much more often and the electric guitar stuff thrown in with the noises was thrown out. All in all an awesome action score that will never be erased.
