Editorial Reviews

Soundtracks have been grand experiments in marketing for so long--let's match a bunch of rappers with a bunch of metalheads! electronica-ists with indie rockers!--that it's a relief that the people who put together the BASEketball soundtrack seem to have a simple guiding principle: big, dumb, fun songs that rock. It's an album full of summer-ready singles: there are gimmicky songs (Reel Big Fish's cover of a-ha's "Take On Me," Nerf Herder's "Don't Hate Me," the Cherry Poppin' Daddies' take on Harry Belafonte's "Jump in the Line"), straight-ahead rockers (the Supersuckers, Plastiscene), a couple of radio-crafted rent-a-hits (including one from the once-mighty Soul Asylum), and even a song that's already been a hit (Smash Mouth's "Why Can't We Be Friends"). Granted, Nerf Herder's track might not be a gimmick, since they pretty much always sound that way--but it, like the majority of the album, is a hell of a lot of fun. Hit the beach and turn it up. --Randy Silver

- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2001Ahh the Baseketball soundtrack, blending the sounds of ska with...the Cherry Poppin' Daddies? You heard it right folks, I speak truth, if you like ska you are going to want this album. Sampling such talent as Reel Big Fish, The Ernies, The Dickies, Goldfinger, Smashmouth should make you want this one already. Still need proof? Even Deep Blue Something (thats right the guys who did "Breakfast At Tiffanys") do a great cover of "Tonight", Soul Asylum drops in with "I will still be laughing" and you can't leave out the Cherry Poppin' Daddies with their hilarious "Jump In The Line". If you still need proof by now well hey I only have one thing to tell ya, sorry this album obviously isn't for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2003If you want a CD in which you want to get pumped with happiness this is your selection, it doesn't matter how down you are, this will get you in a good mood, come on it is Ska/Punk, it has Goldfinger, RBF and many other great band, the only thing that could meke this even better would be some other 20 bonus tracks.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2006I really like the songs and the movie is awesome, I own it, but my question is this: What's the name of the song that the cheerleaders dance to in like the middle of the movie? It sounds like "Everybody's downtown, everybody's downtown". Does anyone know? Please if you could tell me i'd thank you a lot. Just send the answer to highcommander3rdrock@hotmail.com Thank you again.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 1999FIrst of all, I love Reel Big Fish, so my review may ba a little biased. Anyways, the Reel Big Fish songs are great! the Take on Me cover and one of my personal favorite songs -- Beer -- is great, as usual. The Smash Mouth song is pretty cool, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies (as much as I enjoy them) gets a little annoying (it's that dang Latin beat) As for the rest, they're great recordings!!! A MUST HAVE!!!! I first borrowed it fro a friend and once I get money again, I'm buying it thru AMAZON!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 1999I bought this cd because Reel Big Fish was on it but once i got it home and listened to all of the songs, i couldnt help but listen to it over and over! I especially love the song Jump In The Line! But of course the Fish take it all! They are pure genius! Buy this cd NOW!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2001I Bought this CD after i watched the movie(like 30times) and it was totally worth buying. It has sweet songs on it, also the songs are pretty funny, so i strongly recemend thsi CD.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2004I play this cd a lot while I'm driving in the car. I like "Jump in the Line" and "Honeymoon Is Over" the best. The songs are upbeat and fun to sing along with. My ex was a big fan of the movie, so he bought the cd and I ended up with it - I got the better deal.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2005I didnt like it at all, howevery someone who likes punk would probably like it. It is almost all punk and I absolutly hate punk. I really just bought it cause i like the movie and i've seen the movie atleast a billion times. I really dont know what to say other than only buy it if you like punk.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crucial tracks missing but does the job
Has some awful tunes on but reminds me of Baseketball, so swings and roundabouts. Get hold of the missing tunes for completeness, i.e. Thrill Kill Kult
