- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2007"Funny Girl" was one of the greatest musicals and cast recordings to come ouf of broadway and it created one of the world's greatest performers ever. Happily Barbra Streisand successfully transported herself to film and out came one of the most enjoyable soundtracks ever produced for a film. The film score is so minutely different, the show's composers Styne and Merrill had to take out a couple of songs from the show and wrote the beautiful "Funny Girl" in it's place for the film. This soundtrack tends to in my opinion be more authentic than the original cast recording because they put in non-original material such as "I'd Rather Be Blue Over You (Than Happy with Somebody Else)" written by Billy Rose who would much later marry Fanny Brice and it fits the early 1900's era for which "Funny Girl" is set and Barbra's comedic skills are timeless on this song you may not see it but you can hear it in her voice such as with "The Swan" .Another song they use at the film's climax is "My Man" not only was it a staple in the real Fanny Brice's act it is a power-house. Barbra insisted to sing the first part live on screen and record the latter part it is so effective and you do get all the advantages of this on the soundtrack. One more bonus to this recording is the overture composed for the film is gorgeous and they never played it in the film only on the soundtrack, interestingly they used the the opening theme music from the film as the closing music to the soundtrack. Definitely get this soundtrack it is one of the most delightful scores to one of Hollywood's greatest musicals adapted from the stage and that can't be said too often. "Funny Girl was also one of the last great musicals ever produced out of Hollywood and the linear notes in the CD are informative and fun for musical lovers.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2009I remember seeing (and hearing) this movie when it first came out and falling in love both with the story and the wonderful music. I have listened to this sound track so many times that I can, literally, sing along with every nuance and word practically perfect (although this is best done while alone as I am definitely not a singer).
I wore out the album that I originally purchased (don't do the math...I am old) and for some reason didn't buy a replacement. When I did I bought the sound track from the broadway classic which, while still entertaining, was not what I was accustomed to (meaning I couldn't sing along with such sublime perfection...sound not included).
Then imagine my delight when I discovered the sound track from the movie right here on Amazon. I rushed to buy it and it came in record time. Now, much to my neighbors chagrin, I am belting out each and every number, albeit it somewhat off key, at whatever hour the mood strikes me.
If you are a Streisand fan and you like good and, sometimes, sorta campy music then this is the CD for you. And if you happen to have had the good fortune to live a little while and remember this from the "good old days" then owning this is a great experience even if you can't sing but don't care and will give it a loud and satisfying attempt.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2003The film soundtrack version of the "Funny Girl" score may lack some of the intimacy of it's Broadway counterpart, but Barbra's sensational belting is even more impressive the second time around. The film versions of "I'm The Greatest Star," "You Are Woman," "Sadie, Sadie," and especially "Don't Rain On My Parade" are actually superior to the earlier versions, with Barbra giving even better vocal performances. While it doesn't quite match the superior single version from 1964, the film version of "People" (the third studio recording of the song) is lush and very beautiful in it's own right.
The lovely "I'd Rather Be Blue Over You" and the stunning "My Man" (two of Fanny Brice's standard numbers) are worked into the score and prove to be highlights as does the title song, newly written for the film by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill. It's no surprise that Barbra received the Academy Award for best actress for her work in this film. The "Broadway Cast" album has a more intimate feel to it, but the film soundtrack version of "Funny Girl" is a master work in it's own right and just slightly surpasses the earlier recording.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2008In FUNNY GIRL, Streisand's range is as outstanding as her earlier albums. She creates characters within her songs, which are either humurous, dramatic or romantic. The exception in a Streisand soundtrack is that we follow the different emotions and progressive experiences of one personality through each song. The music in this album is exquisite and Streisand's voice is at her usual peak. You really hear in the voice the various characterizations she gives to each of the performances. Whether you're listening to the humour and innocence of 'I'm The Greatest Star', the frustration in 'Don't Rain On My Parade' or the deep and romantic emotions of 'People', you're never quite prepared for the climax of 'My Man'. You realize Streisand has held everything suspended for those last few moments in this incredible song and she grabs you in the gut! She's quite the conceptual artist. Streisand really knows how to tell a story within the context of the character she portrays through music and song.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2018Streisand’s first great star turn. Although different from her broadway cast album in terms of song selection and. arrangements, a nd sharing a duet with Omar sharif. the stage and songs clearly belong to ms. Streisand. The broadway cast album with Sidney Chaplin as her co-star had a more ensemble feeling . Both are very good, but if you are deep into streisand’s singing, this album I s your ticke5!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superbe
C'est une de mes comédies musicales préférées, si ce n'est la préférée ! La musique est superbe et Barbra Streisand a une voix sublimissime. J'avais déjà le DVD mais je voulais la BO pour la voiture ou la maison. Je suis comblée.

5.0 out of 5 stars ein Musical mit viel Witz
Ein Musical mit viel Witz, Selbstironie der Hauptdarstellerin und Homor, aber auch mit Gefühl. Die Rolle der Funny ist auf Barbara Streisand zugeschnitten,
