Beautiful music from a beautiful film. Excellent

Bill Conti's contribution to the Bond canon is lively and different than the feel from other 007 adventures. There's plenty of hard driving "disco" rhythms, as well as soulful passages reflecting the heroine and sequences in Greece. Of course, the title tune is a standard that Sheena Easton made her own, the first time a Bond chartreuse performed on camera during the credits. The remastering of the tracks is superior, chillingly good. The previously unreleased music makes this even more ideal to purchase.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm the biggest James Bond need on earth. A large part of my love for these movies comes from my love for the always-lush soundtracks. I have bought the Bond compilation albums over the years, but I found that much of what I loved in the movies was the incidental music that didn't make it to the compilations. So I started buying original soundtracks. This one is special because my husband and I saw this Bond on our honeymoon cruise. The Sheena Easton-sung theme is a good one- certainly better than most that aren't sung by Shirley Bassey! "Cortina" is probably my favorite track- just a pretty snow-covered evocation of the mountains. The synth- heavy tracks are somewhat dated, but Bill Conti's muted trumpet work on "Take Me Home" is lovely. The Bond theme recurs as much as one would expect in a Bond movie, and it's always well-done.

Great Bill Conti's James Bond soundtrack, although not as solid as previous John Barry works, however more than good enough t have it on your collection if you are a James Bond fan, and for sure FOR YOUR EYES ONLY sung by Sheena Easton takes the cake, what a great song, maybe one of the best as far as as I am concerned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Soundtrack

Best Bond soundtrack NOT composed by the late and great John Barry. Eon Productions hired the services of Bill Conti of Rocky fame to compose the soundtrack as Barry wasn't available and it perfectly introduces Bond to the 1980s. It also helps that this is by far Sir Roger Moore's best Bond film because it isn't as absurd and "gadgety" as his previous films.

The CD also includes bonus tracks not available on the LP release.

    A must buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bill Conti 1981 soundtrack makes for fantastic listening experience!

With its effective mix of pacy disco and more restful contemplative pieces this soundtrack offers much that is worthy of praise and was a pleasingly welcome surprise when I received it recently.

A fast paced jazz funk feel with great synth notes engages the purposeful `Drive in the country' and the lightweight but confidently sassy `Runaway'. I find `Gonzales takes a drive' to be both playfully frivolous and toe-tappingly suspenseful, delighting in equal measure. There are some beautiful flugelhorn solos on offer on both `Take me home' and the instrumental title track, the latter a restful highlight of the film for me. I thought there was excellent use of the traditional Bond theme in the movingly measured `Submarine'. Whilst I welcome the seven bonus tracks on offer for this remastered release, which helps to both swell out the total running time close to an hour and completely cover the films incidental music, in my opinion only `Ski... Shoot... Jump' stands out. It feels rather stark, plain and chilling but superbly captures the marvellously suspenseful nature of Bond attempting to evade his enemies whilst going down a ski jump.

The booklet is also I feel worthy of praise as it so effectively captures the essential flavour of the film so marvellously. The sixteen pages are adorned with many full colour photos of key aspects and characters like the wetsuit wearing Melina threatened with a large knife, three people around a basket looking up at the mountain monastery and a tied together Bond and Melina contemplating their watery fate when about to be pulled off the boat. As well as offering a three panel overview of the film and paragraph on his appraisal of Conti's score Jeff Bond (no relation) offers worthy comment on each of the twelve tracks that make up the original album.

For me it's only a shame that we didn't get info on the album and title tracks UK/US chart performance as with other soundtracks but this is a minor omission on a pleasingly well designed and extremely impressive booklet, definitely the main appeal of these remastered 007 film titles.

With tracks that are both movingly evocative and restful as well as fast paced and infectiously dance orientated this soundtrack is great for all occasions and feeling certain that it's one that will definitely be revisited many times I'm delighted to add it to my music CD collection!
