This soundtrack is one of those when you get in the mail, you put RIGHT into the CD player. I usally don't like re-makes of songs, but this album is the exception. My favorite tracks are Ultimate, Take Me Away, They even have the part where Jake tries to sing Baby One More Time and he gets tackled by Lindsay Lohan's character. Totally FUN!

In order to find out how we got to the vile unable-to-carry-a-song-but-my-sister-is-famous media-whore known as Ashlee Simpson, look no further than 2003's Freaky Friday soundtrack, which contains her first recording. The chain of events that landed this song on the soundtrack probably goes something like this: Joe "Stalin" Simpson schmoozed/threw some cash at the Disney record execs, explained that his younger daughter is less attractive and less talented than Jessica, but she has an album coming out and do you think you could give her a song on the soundtrack? The rec execs sadly accept Simpson's deal with the devil, a decision which still over 2 years later has driven the music industry and listening audiences into a fiery pit of self-destruction and loathing.

As for the song itself: "Just Let Me Cry"... Fine by me, as long as you stop singing!! These are the probably chain of events that led to the creation of this song: After Disney accepted Joe Simpson's deal with the devil, they realized that they needed a song for Ashlee to sing, and seeing as she can't sing, it couldn't be too challenging. Then Ashlee perks up and says "Hey! I really love that song Ex-Girlfriend by No Doubt! Can't we just rip off that song and throw in some cheesy low-budget synthesizers that I can weaze and groan over in my 'unique' singing style?" Then Stalin Simpson and the rec execs go crazy that they've come up with a solution and everyone is happy... except for of course the unsuspecting consumers of America who subsequently had to endure a full-length album of Ashlee's "unique" singing style, her somehow managing to mess up lip-synching on Saturday Night Live, the Orange Bowl halftime show that registered the highest decibels of boo-ing since the New Kids on the Block reunion tour, as most recently, the release of Ashlee's own starring motion picture, Undiscovered, which lived up to it's title and had the worst opening of all-time for a major release and the largest second-week drop of all-time, beating out Gigli. Don't worry though, kids, I'm sure the best is yet to come.
