Product Description

The Before Sunset soundtrack (combining tracks from Before Sunrise, for which there was never a soundtrack album) is a romantic musical journey, featuring "Just in Time" by Nina Simone plus multiple tracks by the film's star Julie Delpy. The album also includes classical tracks by Johann Sebastian Bach and Henry Purcell plus performances by Yo-Yo Ma and Igor Kipnis.

Before Sunrise and Before Sunset are director Richard Linklater's intimate romantic bookends. Separated by nine years, the latter film picks up the threads of an unfinished conversation spurred during the former's chance encounter between an American writer (Ethan Hawke) and French grad student (Julie Delpy). Commitments have long since changed their lives, but the question remains: What if? Hawke and Delpy blurred the lines between filmmaking and reality by penning their own dialog for the second installment, while the actress further underscored that sensibility by writing and performing the core songs for its soundtrack. Their warm, vulnerable charm offers character insight rare in a song-score, while the folk contributions of singers Kathy McCarty and Kath Bloom and chamber pieces by Bach and Purcell complete the ambience; several songs from the 1995 film round out the collection. --Jerry McCulley

If you love the movies, you will love the music. Julie Delpy sings some of her songs, there is classical music that was in the background of both movies, the Waltz song is included as well as "Come Here" which they listen to in the record store. That one alone is worth the price of the CD.

This is a nice way to get the best music from these two wonderful films - in fact, it is almost as enjoyable to hear Julie Delpy sing as it is to hear her talk.

Only one problem - I was primarily interested in the Bach sonata that is played at the closing of 'Before Sunset' - that wonderful series of shots that recap the places the two characters had been. The version included here is a different performance, and it lacks the emotional depth of the Yo Yo Ma performance that is actually in the film. Otherwise, great collection.

When I saw Before Sunrise at the theater many years ago I was blown away by the song they played in the listening booth. I managed to find out that the song was Come Here by Kath Bloom, but I could never find a cd or download of the recording. It's on this cd. Sweet!

You must be a fan of the movies, like I am. I have it in my car's CD player, and go cruising along. My friends don't get it, but the songs keep me mellow, when the traffic get ugly.

Who hasn't experienced a chance meeting that became true love? If not, THIS is your chance! A totally absorbing encounter that changes two lives (and the lives of the viewers) forever!

I love the films and with Before Midnight just being released, this was a perfect purchase. Some of the songs really resonates with me while only a couple I can leave behind. Overall, this is more so for fans, like myself, to buy this!

I enjoyed this music in the film and I enjoy it even more in my bedroom. It is romantic, mellow and delicious. I am very pleased with it. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

I really liked about half of the songs especially "Come Here) but it was the first time for many of the songs and mostly I didn't like them. Julie Delpy's songs were good so I was expecting tunes that I would remember.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hurra!
Reviewed in Germany on October 31, 2005
Was lange währt wird endlich gut!

3.0 out of 5 stars Important song missing
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 8, 2013
Wondering why Just in Time - Nina Simone's wonderful song that defined the ending of Before Sunset - was missing from this CD - it is a powerful piece of music and Julie Delpy was miming and playing along to it in a way that illustrated her passion for Nina Simone's work and also defined the point the couple had reached in their love affair. It even ended the film and ran into the credits. I ordered this CD in the hope of getting it - and am so disappointed that it was missing. Future editions should add it in - and as they obviously had permission to use it for the film - why on earth not on the CD?

    4.0 out of 5 stars ニーナ・シモンの歌は?
Reviewed in Japan on September 8, 2011
