Product Description
This awesome soundtrack follows the theme and mood of the movie highlighting this comedy to it's fullest! The movie is packed wall to wall with music including those hits you can't forget as you walk with the characters on their journeys. Not only will you hear the classics like Steely Dans "Reelin' in the Years," Peter Gabriel's "Salisbury Hill" and Aretha Franklin with "Chain of Fools" but also the new tracks from today's hot artists like THE SHINS, SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES & DAMIEN RICE. If you like the Soundtrack to GARDEN STATE, you'll love this one too!

Writer/director Paul Weitz' comic fable rises above its Hollywood generation-gap formula (older worker Dennis Quaid finds himself in a tense relationship with half-his-age new boss Topher Grace--who's also dating Quaid daughter Scarlett Johansson) with a graceful humanity lacking in similar mainstream fare. That warm sensibility is also capably underscored by an inviting slate of pop songs and the evocative original cues of Hedwig and the Angry Inch collaborator Stephen Trask. While there are the handful of expected oldies (Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools, "the debut hits "Reeling in the Years" and "Solsbury Hill" by Steely Dan and Peter Gabriel, respectively), the collection's atmosphere is largely set by a trio of introspective acoustic ballads by Iron & Wine, the similarly toned "Soundtrack of Our Lives" by Ten Years Ahead and David Byrne's, evocative, minimalist ode to the metro mundane, "Glass, Concrete and Steel." Jazz chanteuse Diana Krall contributes a seductively smoky "Besame Mucho" while Trask's percussion-seasoned underscore subtly fuses it all together into a contemporary whole with masterful understatement. -- Jerry McCulley

- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2007Liked the movie...liked the soundtrack, but....at the end , when I was almost pushing the button on my RC to change to another channel I heard that song, that beautiful song...I couldn't change channels until the song was over and I read the name of the singer..Iron & Wine...Later I found out the title, it was "The trapeze Swinger"...
I am buying this CD just for this one song....and it is worth the money...
All the other songs and artists are good, I mean, you are talking about Peter Gabriel, Steely Dan and David Byrne..You can't say nothing new about these guys...but this one was new to me, and although I am not into sad songs this one I loved!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2006This movie was only ok for me but the soundtrack stuck out in my mind as really great. I was totally excited to see that when I bought this c.d. from Amazon it was inexpensive and even better than I remember. I love Stephen Trask. Many other good artists as well. One of my favorite albums right now.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2005When I heard David Byrne's "Glass, Concrete and Stone", it didn't matter what the rest of the "In Good Company" soundtrack sounded like; I had to have that album. And although the movie and the soundtrack have very very different feels, this CD is one you won't regret buying.
Most of the music on this record, especcially the tracks by "Iron and Wine", is so soft, gentle, and subtle that you might forget you're even listening to it (in a good way). The songs are all upbeat and inviting. However, without the rougher, more ryhtmic tracks from Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan, and Pete Gabriel, the softer songs from Iron and Wine and Soundtrack of Our Lives might disappear beneath the surface. As a whole, the album sounds more like a jumble of two vastly different styles, but each song compliments the others well. The tracks from the score by Stephen Trask are great, too, and while they fit perfectly into this CD, they aren't really a good fit for the movie.
It's not a perfect album; it could use some tweaking in song choice to make it more fluid, and "Cannonball" by the great Damien Rice is missing, but it's definitely great for a cozy night at home.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2005The soundtrack In Good Company and the movie are very good. I really liked the song Glass, Concrete, and Stone by David Byrne. This is a song about the routine of daily life. It is also about how hard everybody works to earn a living. The track Besame Mucho by Diana Krall is another highlight for me. Her rendition of this classic song is very soothing and sensual. Naked as We Came by Iron and Wine is a very pretty song about we all feel insecure at some point in our lives.
Peter Gabriel's hit song Solsbury Hill is included on this soundtrack. I think this song is very uplifting and optimistic. I haven't heard it in years, and I really enjoyed it. Steely Dan's classic Reeling in the Years is just a feel good song. Composer Stephen Trask contributes three wonderful instrumental tracks that enhance the movie well I'm Psyched is a beautiful lively instrumental piece about working together to get the job done. This is one of my favorite tracks on this soundtrack. In Good Company is an excellent soundtrack. I highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2006Well you can't say a lot about the bunch of oldies, they're just great but i didn't buy the album for that. I bought it just to hear "The Trapeze Swinger" by Iron and Wine over and over again, just a couple of minutes hearing it at the end of the movie while leaving the theater was enough for me to fall in love with that song. I've never liked slow songs but for the times i feel sad, but this song just makes my eyes wet everytime i listen it. Just give it a try, it's worth, i promise.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2005Though the overall feel to the album is mellow (namely due to Iron and Wine contributions), every now and then a song that one wouldn't think would mix well with the others actually adds a great layer to the soundtrack.
Though it is true that a few powerful songs are missing from the soundtrack (the lost star goes out to them), the group of songs still make a powerful album.
The mood ranges from whimsical, sensual, playful, nostalgic, meloncholy and energetic-- quite a range to cover, yet the execution is done through a fabulous selection of artists. A few newer artists are thrown in (like Iron and Wine), some obscure ones (who exactly is Stephen Trask?) and some classics as well (Steelie Dan). The selection of artists leaves all of the generations satisfied and feeling pretty relaxed come the last track.
In most cases, soundtracks compliment the movie. In the case of "In Good Company," however, the soundtrack demands more attention than the theme and for good reason-- the soundtrack is done exceptionally well, following no conventional genre or particular mood. Nicely done.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2005I just went to see this movie and left feeling very satisfied. Topher Grace and Dennis Quaid were moving and trustworthy in both of their respective roles and Scarlet Johannson was as beautiful as she is quietly stirring. I immediately bought the soundtrack upon returning home.
To answer the question posed by "Ava Victoria"...the name of the song played as the credits role is "Trapeze Swinger" by Iron and Wine. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colonna sonora dinamica
Il film può sembrare banale e invece a mio avvisola commedia una trama plausibile. La colonna sonora è dinamica, riflessiva e fresca, con alcuni momenti di romanticismo.
Consigliata.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saw the movie
After seeing the movie on tv recently we just had to get this cd. The music is quite varied and as you might expect, it reflects differing scenes in the film so when listened to out of context might seem a little odd at first. Having said that we have played it endlessly since its delivery which was as usual, earlier than expected, and well packaged.

5.0 out of 5 stars ottimo
Bellissima colonna sonora per rivivere tute le scene principali del film o anche per ascoltare buona musica senza aver visto il film
