Editorial Reviews

What do Paris Hilton, Sarah Brightman, Clown from Slipknot - Paul Sorvino, Steven Perkins and Bill Mosley have in common? REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman Produced by Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate Written by Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich Starring Paul Sorvino, Alexa Vega, Paris Hilton, Anthony Head, Bill Mosely, Ogre, Terrance Zdunich and Sarah Brightman, (cameo by Joan Jett) In the no-so-distant future, a worldwide epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GENECO, a biotech company that offers organ transplants...for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by THE REPO MAN. By fusing ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and BLADE RUNNER, this futuristic tale of horror modernizes the rock opera genre with original music and rich, dark production design. This rock opera boasts an entirely original soundtrack that blends equal parts goth and punk rock to form an eerie and powerful musical narrative. All of the actors performed their own songs, and the music was provided by an all-star lineup that features performances from Richard Patrick (Filter), Steven Perkins (Jane's Addiction), Clown (Slipknot), Ray Luzier (Army of Anyone), Brian Young (David Lee Roth's band), Richard Fortus (Guns & Roses), Sonny Moore (First to Last), David J (Bauhaus/Love & Rockets), Daniel Ash (Love & Rockets), Blasko (Ozzy Osborne), Tommy Clefetus (Rob Zombie's band), Melora Creager (Rasputina). Also lending her voice to the soundtrack is the edgy pop star Poe. Japanese musician and composer Yoshiki Haysahi (of the legendary rock band X-Japan) co-produced the music with Joe Bishara to create one of the most diverse soundtracks in movie history.

This soundtrack is awesome. I'll recap what everyone else has said - whatever your taste, you'd probably find it in this soundtrack and movie. The vocals and musical craftsmanship are amazing. You will be STUNNED by vocal talents you wouldn't have thought of - such as Paris Hilton! She does an amazing job, trust me, I was shocked, too! Not only is this soundtrack filled with amazing music, its music to a story that is an amazing storyline - This is not just a horror rock opera, its a storyline that could maybe one day come into reality - It's a fascinating take on sci fi, horror, music, and just is all around amazing. I sincerely hope Lionsgate realizes what a horrible mistake they are making by not making this movie a wide release - I myself have gotten over 20 people wanting to see the film! This soundtrack is just an amazing taste, I can't wait to see it in action.

I found Repo after I became a fan of The Devils Carnival. Terrance Zdunich is a gifted composer and storyteller. Repo is a mesmerizing film but the music is truly unforgetable. Paul Sorvino is perfectly casted as the even Rotti. I am slightly disappainted that Happiness is Not a Warm Scapel was not included in the CD. But all the songs which are included are well done. Sarah Brightman and Anthony Stewert Head are a mazing. There is also Orgre( Skinny Puppy), Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) and Paris Hilton. These are a prettydiverse group of singers and it is wonderful to hear them on this Cd.

I hate musicals, with a passion. I even hate people who burst out into song in real life for no apparent reason. It grates my nerves something fierce. But I saw the preview for this and I blind-bought it (mostly because Anthony Stewart Head is in it and I love his acting). I liked it so much I went to a shadowcast of it in a local theater and had a blast. I'm not into things like "Rocky Horror" either, but Repo just has something to it that makes it stand out against most everything else. The cast is pitch perfect for their roles (even Paris Hilton, who seemingly does have some "pipes"). I'd say that if you like rock operas, or if you liked the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode, "Once More with Feeling" or perhaps even Sweeney Todd, (all of which, coincidentally, include Anthony Stewart Head in the cast), Repo is a safe bet.

As for the Blu-ray portion of this review, the audio is just right and for a lower budget film, it still shines on hi-def visually. It's not as polished and punchy as premier bluray titles, but that's to be expected given the budget and look of the film.

This soundtrack is great! the only problem with it are a few of the songs that aren't in the movie, are on the soundtrack. Some of the lyrics to these songs hint at, I don't know, characters acting differently, or the movie being different than it ended up being. One funny thing is she sings about hating dad in one song then the very next song is, Didn't know I loved you so much! It's so, I hate you! I love you! This Soundtrack is very much worth every penny. Even though the extra tracks are a little confusing to the story line, they are great songs!

I had high expectations for this album and it did not disappoint. In fact, it's even better than I thought it would be. It often takes me a while to adjust to new music and start to really enjoy it. This CD was a hit with me from the first notes of "At the Opera Tonight", something that hasn't happened since I bought Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" album.

The songs range from dark and creepy ("Let the Monster Rise", "Things You See in a Graveyard") to morbidly hilarious ("Thankless Job"). A couple of them were unexpectedly beautiful ("Gold", "Chase the Morning", "I Didn't Know I'd Love You So Much"). The singers vary from lifelong pros (Sarah Brightman, Paul Sorvino) to people you didn't think could sing at all (Alexa Vega, Paris Hilton), but they all do an incredible job. If you like rock, industrial music, opera, or just some music with a good story behind it (the underlying story is really creepy and cool), then I can't recommend this soundtrack enough.

I discovered the movie on accident a little over a month ago and was instantly hooked on the sample film clips (which included songs "Mark It Up", "Zydrate Anatomy", and "17"). If you're on the fence about buying this album, watching those clips on the film's official website is probably a good way to firm up that resolve. The full soundtrack is just filled to the brim with excellent music. Better, unlike most albums there's enough variety that you can keep the album on loop for hours without it getting old. There's a dash of punk, a whole lot of rock and roll, and a touch of industrial and metal. You've never heard anything like this. It's unbelievable.
