Heading on over to the
10:30 screening of Austin Powers after
seeing Phone Booth beforehand, there was
a small line of maybe fifteen to twenty
people at 9:30 when I arrived. As the
time grew closer to 10:00, the line
stretched a little down the street, but
was not enormous. Most people there were
between the ages of 16 and early 20's
and had the look of a fun audience on
the way.
At 10:10 we were let in
to the auditorium, which sat somewhere
in the area of 340 people. When the
lights dimmed to a mostly sold out show,
the excitement among the crowd was very
evident with a few loud out remarks.
After the last of several commercials
played, an audience member screamed out,
"show us another commercial!" in
sarcasm, which evoked appreciation from
the crowd.
The first trailer up was
the newest version of Master of
Disguise, which surprisingly, drew a
nice reception from the audience. Laughs
were common throughout, though by the
end of the trailers I had a feeling that
if anyone were to recap the list of
movies shown, most would have forgotten
MOD.
In no particular order
after that, the Swimfan preview played,
which resulted in a loud sarcasm comment
afterwards of, "what a blockbuster!"
which sparked plenty of laughs from most
of the crowd.
We had Blue Crush, which
had a few short cheers in the start-up
but nothing exciting.
We were also shown the
Die Another Day teaser, which sprung
several cheers once the Bond music
loaded and clearly positive reactions
from most of the moviegoers present.
One of the last previews
we had was the newest one for Simone,
which barely gives anything away but is
more teasing than the much longer
trailer available. Simone didn't receive
any clear response.
I think the last trailer
that played was The Two Towers, which
retrieved a few cheers at Ian McKellen's
appearance but nothing else.
As for audience reaction
to the overall movie, Goldmember, the
audience seemed to really enjoy it, as
laughter was constant through its 90
minute running time. The opening scene
had everyone laughing out of control and
a large applause sounded off at a
certain presence. Goldmember concluded
with a light ovation, but most were
heading out of the theater smiling and
some still laughing heartily from some
of the film's jokes.
Until next time...
