In what was looking
like a wildcard scenario when I got to the theater (over an
hour early) in terms of the crowd situation (it could either
be partially filled or full wise), Just Married ended up being
about as crowded as Orange County on opening night even though
I saw them in two different theaters. The film was
only playing on one screen and happened to be booked in the
same room as Save the Last Dance played in, seating somewhere
around 350 people. A line had formed by around 6:50 for the
7:35, but it didn't grow overly long. Eventually as the lights
dimmed, the theater was filled to sold out status. And one
thing I do have to note is that there were too many annoying
13-year olds in there, but enough bickering.
The first trailer up was Anger Management, which got a
cheer or two with Adam Sandler's first appearance, followed by
laughter when Jack Nicholson came on. A loud laughter reaction
sprung with the ending gag.
The Guru played to a surprisingly good reaction, with
laughs rather continuously.
Daredevil followed, which didn't get much enthusiasm but
the multiplex audiences around here are typically known to be
more reserved and quiet. Interest looked good, but nothing
special in reaction.
Then came Down with Love, with Ewan McGregor, which pretty
much withdrew a silent response but it felt like the females
in the room were "into" it.
Next up was Old School, which got laughs throughout and a
very good reception afterwards. It appeared as though interest
for that one was especially high.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days played really well to the
female side of the room, as they were the majority of the ones
laughing and giggling throughout.
As for Just Married, there was some light clapping when
Ashton Kutcher first appeared but the movie as a whole
retrieved a pretty good reception. Laughs were always
resulting from the audience throughout, and it got a light
applause at the end. There was also somewhat of a line for the
10:00, but it wasn't too lengthy. |
