Ah yes, a
sequel to one of 1998's best popcorn
flicks, or at least in my opinion.
Wesley Snipes returns in the role as
Blade in the new action adventure, and
with New Line's aggressive ads showing
up in Lord of the Rings and various
other pictures, a big opening is in the
works.

When the
original Blade opened in August of
'98, the film grossed $17.1 million in
its launch, averaging a strong $7,353
per-site in 2,322 theaters. With films
nowadays, sequels can get a big boost
in their openings. Such incidences
took place with The Mummy Returns and
Rush Hour 2. While Blade 2 is likely
to keep a good distance gap between
those blockbusters, enough young folks
(and primarily males) will be
enthusiastic enough to give Blade a
triumphant beginning. Two weeks Blade
2's opening, part of its audience will
have had the Ice Cube comedy, All
About the Benjamins, which should die
down enough by the entrance of the
Blade sequel. Teens and young adults
haven't had an action adventure flick
in a good while which should ensure a
powerful debut. Likely to invade over
3000 theaters, Blade 2 could earn
around $28.0 million in its debut.
