By the way, if you want to know why I am trying so hard, one of the kids
that I coached at North Central in Indiana named Caleb, was in a horrible
truck accident. He was almost killed, but somehow was able to push the truck
off of him. He was one of my best players. After the wreck it was not clear
whether he would walk again. It was after my first year of playing semi-pro
ball, and he was one of the kids that encouraged me to play. After the
accident I visited him and gave him my jersey, which was extremely important
to me because it represented to me that I could actually DO something at the
age of 41 that others were afraid to try, and I gave it to him and let him
know that all things are possible. He inspired me more than I inspired him,
he probably didn't know that. Just thought you would like to know why I am
trying so hard. Caleb started working out with the team again last year,
probably on at 10%. When the rest of the team was sprinting, he was doing
pushups and sit-ups. Caleb's story is much more courageous than mine.
