It's that time again. Awards season is upon us and the best indication for Oscar is of course the Golden Globes and it's always fun to determine if I've done my homework well enough to make those predictions. Below are all the movie categories and my predictions for each. As a couple of asides however, very happy that Avatar, Christoph Waltz, and Coraline got the credit they deserved. But of course I wouldn't be a good critic if I didn't notice the glaring flaws. No Funny People or Bruno in Best Comedy or Musical? Huh? No "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" in best Comedic television show? When are these guys going to finally get some Hollywood respect? And how can Sandra Bullock get nominated for "The Proposal" and Katey Sagal (who gave a tough, devastating performance in "Sons of Anarchy")get completely ditched. Just tells you what a crazy, off-year it's been. Hopefully next year will be better, but you know I'll probably find something to bitch about anyway.

BEST MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
AVATAR
THE HURT LOCKER
PRECIOUS
UP IN THE AIR
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS

Prediction: Haven't seen it yet but I've been so up on Avatar that I can't yet say it's not going to be the movie of the year.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
Emily Blunt, THE YOUNG VICTORIA
Sandra Bullock, THE BLIND SIDE
Helen Mirren, THE LAST STATION
Carey Mulligan, AN EDUCATION
Gabourey Sidibe, PRECIOUS

Prediction: Seems to be tailor made for Sidibe.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
Jeff Bridges, CRAZY HEART
Morgan Freeman, INVICTUS
George Clooney, UP IN THE AIR
Tobey Maguire, BROTHERS
Colin Firth, A SINGLE MAN

Prediction: Who deserves acting gold more than the dude himself? Only Morgan Freeman, who gets my vote.

BEST MOTION PICTURE - MUSICAL OR COMEDY
500 DAYS OF SUMMER
THE HANGOVER
IT'S COMPLICATED
JULIE & JULIA
NINE

Prediction: No Funny People or Bruno. Hmmm, let's say It's Complicated.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Sandra Bullock, THE PROPOSAL
Meryl Streep, IT'S COMPLICATED
Meryl Streep, JULIE & JULIA
Marion Cotillard, NINE
Julia Roberts, DUPLICITY

Prediction: Bullock and Roberts? Unbelievable! Just shows how bad a year it's been. I say Streep for Julie and Julia.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE -MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Daniel Day-Lewis, NINE
Matt Damon, THE INFORMANT!
Robert Downey, Jr., SHERLOCK HOLMES
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, 500 DAYS OF SUMMER
Michael Stuhlbarg, A SERIOUS MAN

Prediction: Damon will probably make it. The guy deserves some acting credit finally.

BEST DIRECTOR
Jason Reitman, UP IN THE AIR
Kathryn Bigelow, THE HURT LOCKER
Quentin Tarantino, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS
James Cameron, AVATAR
Clint Eastwood, INVICTUS

Prediction: You gotta think that the painstaking effort Cameron went to on Avatar is going to be rewarded.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Neill Blomkamp, Terri Tatchell, DISTRICT 9
Mark Boal, THE HURT LOCKER
Nancy Meyers, IT'S COMPLICATED
Jason Reitman & Sheldon Turner, UP IN THE AIR
Quentin Tarantino, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS

Prediction: 9, Locker, and Up are all kinda overrated. Basterds was writing at its best though so that's my pick.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
Michael Giacchino, UP
Marvin Hamlisch, THE INFORMANT!
James Horner, AVATAR
Abel Korzeniowski, A SINGLE MAN
Karen O. and Carter Burwell, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

Prediction: The Hamlisch score was unbelievably annoying. Lets say Horner.

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
BARRIA
BROKEN EMBRACES
THE PROPHET
THE WHITE RIBBON

Prediction: Always a crap-shoot. Let's say White Ribbon.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE
Mo'Nique, PRECIOUS
Vera Farmiga, UP IN THE AIR
Anna Kendrick, UP IN THE AIR
Julianne Moore, A SINGLE MAN
Penelope Cruz, NINE

Prediction: Kendrick was my favorite out of these 5 but it's most likely going to be Monique.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE
Christoph Waltz, INGLORIOUS BASTERDS
Matt Damon, INVICTUS
Woody Harrelson, THE MESSENGER
Christopher Plummer, THE LAST STATION
Stanley Tucci, THE LOVELY BONES

Prediction: Waltz was absolutely fantastic.

BEST ANIMATED FILM
CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS
UP
CORALINE
FANTASTIC MR. FOX
THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG

Prediction: Loved Coraline. Inventive and hell of a lot of fun. Plus Henry Selick still deserves some credit for Nightmare Before Christmas.

BEST ORIGINAL SONG - MOTION PICTURE
"Cinema Italiano" from NINE
"I Want to Come Home" from EVERYBODY'S FINE
"I Will See You" from AVATAR
"The Weary Kind" from CRAZY HEART
"Winter" from BROTHERS

Prediction: I heard this "The Weary Kind" song and I liked it a lot so I go with that one.
