Getting off to a rousing start at the box office, Quentin Tarantino?s second half of his revenge series, Kill Bill, took in a sizzling $10.6 million in ticket sales on opening day. The figure easily surpassed the opening night performance of Volume 1 ($8.0 million - $2,586 per-screen), and though the film seems to have beaten Eyes Wide Shut ($7.8 million - $3,219 per-screen) in terms of playing very well outside of the top theater markets, Bill?s legs might be a different story.

Volume 2 grossed in line with the horror remake, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which brought in $10.6 million ($3,509 per-screen) on its first day, on its way to a $28.1 million weekend. Since solid word of mouth on the first night might have kept that flick from receiving a decline on Saturday night (since some expectations might have been questionable beforehand), Kill Bill might not be in the same boat.

Volume 2 has had pent-up demand and moviegoers know what to expect from it, which could create the opening night rush factor. The film performed similarly to Jackass ($9.7 million - $3,873 per-screen), and that comedy had a big rush factor, falling to $7.8 million ($3,113 per-screen) on Saturday. If Volume 2 follows the same pattern in its daily grosses, it will be headed for around $26.0 million for the weekend. If Volume 2 mimics the Dawn of the Dead remake ($10.9 million Fri, $9.7 million Sat, $6.1 million Sun), the weekend should be roughly $27.0 million. However, if the daily performances mirror that of Eyes Wide Shut, a $28.0 million weekend could be in store.

After an advertising campaign that felt like Once Upon a Time in Mexico?s without Johnny Depp leading the way, The Punisher played solidly on Friday, delivering $5.2 million in ticket sales. Averaging $1,967 per-screen in 2,649 theaters, the comic book flick scored in line with Final Destination 2, which took in $5.6 million and $1,969 per-screen. Lacking pent-up demand, The Punisher could be benefited with a slight second day boost, as it does not have the stature that Underworld and Hellboy had created before their releases (leading to the same basic gross on Sat as Fri with the rush). With that being said, a weekend take of $14 - 15 million should result.
